Sometimes it is difficult to live in the moment. We feel pulled from all sides; work, family, friends, social media, future planning…it can be a struggle to live in the now and let go of these.
However, if we treat every encounter, every moment, as if it were only ever to happen this once, in the whole of our lifetime, even more, in the whole of the universe, then we appreciate the moment more and immerse ourselves in it.
It is similar to imagining this might be our last day alive and that everything we do, think, feel, touch, taste and experience might be the very last time we have it. If we knew this was our last day, we would make the most of every second.

But we don’t need to think of it as being our last day. Every one of these instances does only happen once, and that once is now.
We eat an apple now and when we do, it is different from any other time we have eaten an apple. So we can only really ever eat that apple now, and should savour that moment, as it is the only moment that ever matters.
Really, the key is to pay attention. If we pay attention to our taste buds, our hearing, our touch – what the other person in front of us is saying, what is happening around us, then we are living in the moment and our lives are enriched.
Pay attention this second, be mindful, be aware and let all else go. When we do this, everything becomes more connected and meaningful and this brings a peace and joy to life that is indescribable.
